EDITORIAL STANDARDS

How we research cards.

A clear account of what our product profiles include, how we check facts, and what our initial directory leaves out.

Our aim is to make a card's tradeoffs understandable before you read an application. We do not assign a universal winner because the value of a card depends on how you pay and spend.

Selection

The launch directory is a small editorial sample of products spanning cash back, travel, balance transfers, secured credit building and business spending. It does not cover every issuer or offer. Inclusion is based on the usefulness of comparing different structures, not an advertising arrangement.

Source checks

Each profile links to the issuer's product page and displays a month of editorial review. We check the publicly described annual fee and broad product structure against that source. Issuers can change terms at any time, so we do not reproduce short lived APRs, introductory offers or welcome bonuses as if they were permanent. The issuer's live disclosures control.

Analysis and limits

We explain a plausible use case and a specific tradeoff for every card. Our tools take visitor entered numbers and show their assumptions. We do not know your eligibility, approval odds, credit limit, actual reward redemption value or spending behavior. A point or mile is not assigned a cash value by our calculator.

Order and compensation

Directory entries are grouped for editorial variety and are not a ranking. At launch, issuer links are ordinary external links and we receive no compensation for them. If paid links or ads are introduced, we will identify the relationship where it matters, explain any effect on placement and update our disclosures. Compensation must not determine factual claims.

Corrections and updates

We review reports of outdated details or broken links. Send the page URL and issue to info@washingtontribune.com. Last methodology update: September 2026.
